Red-Winged-Black Bird's are quite territorial. This one saw this large black bird (a crow) in its territory and made a straight line dash for the big bird and harassed it until it left his area. In this view, the birds did a sharp bank near me, displaying their undersides, so the only red on the red-winged-black bird is at the wing tip. Love those Colorado deep blue skies. Early morning image. Note the red-winged-black bird's lower wing: it the feathers are damaged from other battles.
Technical. Canon 1D Mark IV, 16 megapixel camera, 300 mm f/2.8 L IS lens at f/4.5, ISO 200, 1/2500 second, manual exposure. Single point autofocus AI servo tracking, hand held. Crop to 10 megapixels.
